Photo essay: Joe Biden s long road to the presidency
7 minutes to read
By: Tanner Curtis, Antonio de Luca, Thomas Kaplan and Umi Syam When Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States, it was a moment of political triumph that had been decades in the making. His long career in public office spanned eight presidents, from Richard Nixon to Barack Obama, but the nation s highest office always eluded him. Now, Biden, 78, finally joins their ranks.
The story begins with an Irish Catholic family in northeastern Pennsylvania. Biden was born in 1942, the eldest son of Joseph Robinette Biden Sr. and Catherine Eugenia Finnegan Biden. He was also a son of Scranton, Pennsylvania, which would become central to his political identity. The Biden family moved to Delaware when he was 10 years old.

Those responsible for stealing road cones from a bridge at risk of collapsing have put members of the public in grave danger, the Southland District Council says.
The safety signage was intended to steer motorists away from Channel Rd bridge at Tussock Creek, which was closed temporarily due to damage from flooding in the region earlier this month.

International media has reported regarding the Covid syrup developed by Dhammika from Kegalle stating that it has turned sour.
The reports stated that a self-styled Sri Lankan holy man’s supposed miracle potion to prevent Covid-19 has turned sour after a minister who publicly drank it was taken to hospital with the virus. Thousands defied public gathering restrictions to swamp a village in central Sri Lanka last month to get the syrup made by Dhammika Bandara.
The women and child development minister, Piyal Nishantha de Silva, was among several politicians who consumed the concoction, but parliamentary officials said he had since tested positive for coronavirus and was taken to a treatment centre according to the reports.

Haverhill state Rep. Andy X. Vargas is praising the state’s decision to designate a Haverhill pharmacy as one of the first allowed to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to Haverhill residents.
In a story reported first by WHAV, the state chose Walgreens, 68 S. Main St., in the Bradford section of Haverhill, as part of Centers for Disease Control Pharmacy Partnership announced by Gov. Charlie Baker.
“I’m grateful that Haverhill has been chosen as one out of 15 communities in the state to host the Commonwealth’s first vaccine access points in partnership with pharmacies,” Vargas said. He added, “It is our hope that this can both expedite phase 1 and phase 2 for Haverhill and surrounding communities. We remain focused on advocating for the resources necessary to ensure the quickest delivery of vaccines for our constituents.”
